Overview
The Auto Body and Collision Technician Foundation Certificate is a 36-week, 1080-hour full-time program at Okanagan College that introduces students with little or no prior experience to the automotive collision repair trade. Coursework follows the Industry Training Authority's Automotive Collision and Refinishing common core Level 1 curriculum, covering vehicle body repair, refinishing preparation, and shop safety. The program includes a two-week work placement that gives students hands-on exposure to an auto body shop environment. Graduates receive credit toward Level 1 apprenticeship technical training in both the Auto Body and Collision Technician and Automotive Refinishing Technician trades, allowing them to continue toward Red Seal certification through further apprenticeship. Classes are delivered on campus, days, at the Kelowna Trades Complex. The program is intended as an entry point for students without previous trades experience or an existing employer sponsor, preparing them for apprenticeship-track employment in the collision repair and automotive refinishing industry.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: British Columbia secondary school graduation, or equivalent, or 19 years of age and out of secondary school for at least one year; English 10 with a minimum of 50% or equivalent; and Mathematics 10 or Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 10 with a minimum of 50%, or an equivalent score on the Trades Entrance Assessment.
