Overview
The PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ontario Tech University develops advanced expertise through independent research, critical thinking and creative problem-solving. Students complete a combination of advanced coursework, independent research, research seminars, mandatory professional workshops, conference presentations, refereed publications and an original research dissertation that makes a new contribution to the field. Applicants must hold a Master of Applied Science level degree in engineering, and admission depends on a faculty member agreeing to supervise the applicant's research. Instruction is delivered in-class at Ontario Tech's North Oshawa campus, and the programme normally takes about four years of full-time study to complete. Entry is available in the September, January or May terms, with tuition charged at the university's flat annual doctoral rate for domestic and international students.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a Master of Applied Science (MASc) level degree in engineering from a Canadian university, or the equivalent from a recognized institution, with a minimum B+ average (GPA of 3.3 on a 4.3 scale, or 77 to 79 per cent). Admission depends on the availability of a faculty supervisor in the applicant's area of research. Standard supporting documents (transcripts, letters of recommendation and a statement of academic intent) and proof of English language proficiency are required as outlined in the graduate application checklist.
