This is a consecutive Bachelor of Education program for the Primary/Junior division (kindergarten to grade 6), intended for students who already hold an undergraduate degree and have a broad academic background across subject areas. The curriculum emphasizes digital literacies, mathematics, coding, science, mental health and inclusion, preparing candidates to teach across the full elementary curriculum. The program is delivered in-class at the Downtown Oshawa campus over 12 consecutive months beginning in May, and combines coursework with internship and practicum placements in schools. It also includes extended study in areas such as Indigenous approaches to education, mental health, environmental and sustainability education, and equity, diversity and inclusion, preparing graduates for certification as Primary/Junior teachers.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution, received by June 30 of the year the program begins; preference is given to those with four-year honours degrees, and a broad academic background is desirable given the range of subjects Primary/Junior teachers cover. A complete application includes transcripts and evidence of oral and written proficiency in English; a clear criminal record check is a post-admission requirement, due by a deadline set by the faculty's practicum office. Admission is competitive and the average required varies from year to year based on grades, distribution of subjects taken and performance in relevant subjects.
