Overview
This Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Educational Studies is a hybrid program combining online courses from the Faculty of Education with in-person or online electives from other faculties, preparing students for careers such as teaching, instructional design, multimedia and e-learning, and educational consulting. Core coursework covers foundations of learning, digital technologies, early childhood education, instructional design, and equity, diversity and inclusion. Students may select the Concurrent Education option on application, or apply to teacher education in their final year. The program is four years in length, based at the Downtown Oshawa campus, with September and January start dates, and is available with a co-op option. Graduates may pursue a Bachelor of Education pathway or graduate study such as a Master of Education.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Current Ontario secondary school applicants must complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U or 4M credits, including English (ENG4U). Admission is competitive and the required average varies from year to year, based on school marks, distribution of subjects and performance in subjects relevant to the program; meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Applicants apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) using application code DST for the general (no specialization) option, and those also interested in becoming a teacher must select the appropriate Concurrent Education option, subject to space remaining in that pathway. Separate routes apply for out-of-province, international, mature, transfer, General Arts and Science and home-schooled applicants.
