Overview
This is Canada's first undergraduate program dedicated exclusively to Educational Psychology, examining the biological, cognitive, emotional and social factors that shape how people learn, retain and apply knowledge across typical and atypical populations. Coursework covers cognition, development, learning theories, assessment practices, inclusive education and technology-enhanced learning environments, preparing students for careers in psychometry, guidance counselling, school social work and education. The four-year Honours Bachelor of Arts is delivered in-class at the Downtown Oshawa campus with a September start, and includes experiential learning components such as work terms, internships, practicum placements and an undergraduate thesis or research study. Specializations are available in Aging and Learning in an Era of Technology, Developmental Science & Learning, Inclusive Educational Studies, Learning Sciences and Technology, and Mental Health and Special Education, and advanced-entry pathways are offered.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Current Ontario secondary school applicants must complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U or 4M credits, including English (ENG4U). Admission is competitive and the required average varies from year to year, based on school marks, distribution of subjects and performance in subjects relevant to the program; meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance, and preference is given to applicants with the strongest qualifications. Separate admission routes apply for Ontario secondary school graduates, out-of-province and international applicants, mature applicants, transfer applicants, General Arts and Science (GAS) applicants and home-schooled applicants.
