Overview
The PhD in Applied Bioscience at Ontario Tech University trains researchers working at the interface of chemistry and biology through interdisciplinary coursework and independent laboratory-based research. The programme prepares graduates for leadership roles in life sciences research intended to improve human health. Applicants must hold a master's-level degree in biology, chemistry or a related field and secure the support of a faculty supervisor before admission. Students complete a PhD Graduate Seminar, a Doctoral Exit Seminar, and a Thesis Proposal and Candidacy Exam within the first 18 months of study, then undertake original dissertation research. Instruction is delivered in-class, and the programme is normally completed in about four years of full-time study. Entry is available in the September, January or May terms, with tuition charged at the university's flat annual doctoral rate for domestic and international students.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a Master of Science (MSc) level degree in biology, chemistry or a related area from a Canadian university, or the equivalent from a recognized institution, with a minimum B+ average (GPA of 3.3 on a 4.3 scale, or 77 to 79 per cent). Before acceptance, applicants must be approved by a faculty supervisor who specializes in their intended research area and is willing to act as supervisor. Standard supporting documents and proof of English language proficiency are required as outlined in the graduate application checklist.
