Overview
The Internet of Things specialization is offered within Ontario Tech University's Software Engineering program, leading to a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or, with an additional year, a Bachelor of Engineering and Management (Honours). Students study the design, development and management of interconnected smart devices, integrating hardware and software to build scalable Internet of Things systems. Specialized courses cover the design and analysis of IoT software systems, connecting devices and services to the cloud, sensor data collection and analysis, and mobile programming, building on the broader Software Engineering curriculum in software design, user interfaces, advanced networks, and algorithm design and analysis. All engineering students complete a common foundation year before specializing. The program is delivered on-campus at the North Oshawa campus, with capstone, co-op and internship options. Graduates are prepared for careers such as application developer, software engineer, systems engineer and systems administrator.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Current Ontario secondary school students must complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U or 4M credits including English (ENG4U) with a minimum grade of 60 per cent, Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), and Physics (SPH4U). In addition, a combined minimum 70 per cent average in prerequisite math and science courses is required, with no grade below 60 per cent.
