Overview
The Manufacturing Engineering program is accredited and covers additive, subtractive, and traditional manufacturing processes, with grounding in mathematics, computing, and science alongside engineering sciences and design. Coursework addresses the design, development, planning, improvement, and application of manufacturing processes, including materials and composites, robotics, automation, and intelligent controls, and the integration of tools, processes, and equipment within manufacturing facilities and systems. Students may pursue a Railway Engineering specialization, covering the design, construction, and operation of rail systems, including infrastructure, signalling, and transportation planning. All engineering students complete a common foundation year before beginning the program proper. The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) is completed over four years of in-class study at the North Oshawa campus, with a five-year Bachelor of Engineering and Management (Honours) option that adds business and management coursework. A direct-entry co-op option is available through the OUAC application, providing full-time paid work terms.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Ontario Tech University states no admission requirements specific to Manufacturing Engineering beyond the university-wide Ontario secondary-school pathway and its general English proficiency policy. Applicants need the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U/4M credits, including English (ENG4U) at a minimum 60 per cent, Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), and Physics (SPH4U), plus a combined minimum 70 per cent average across the prerequisite math and science courses with no single grade below 60 per cent. Admission is competitive: last year's cut-off was 70 per cent and the expected cut-off sits in the mid-70s, so meeting the minimums does not guarantee a seat. Applicants whose first language is not English must present, within two years of the intake, IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, Duolingo English Test 120, PTE Academic 58, CAEL 70 with no band below 60, Cambridge English Advanced 180 with no band below 170, or Oxford ELLT 7, or an IB Diploma or certificate with a minimum grade of 4 in English A, per the university's general admission requirements. The program begins each September and January.
