The Railway Engineering specialization can be taken within Ontario Tech University's Automotive, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronics or Software Engineering programs, leading to a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or, with an additional year, a Bachelor of Engineering and Management (Honours). The interdisciplinary specialization covers the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of railway systems, including infrastructure development, track design, signalling systems, rolling-stock management, transportation planning and safety protocols, extending to high-speed rail and metro systems. Students complete a common engineering foundation year before specializing, with co-op and internship options including a direct-entry co-op stream. The program starts in September or January and is delivered on-campus at the North Oshawa campus. Graduates are prepared for careers with railway authorities, infrastructure firms and transportation consultancies supporting the development of rail networks.
