Overview
Information Security is a two-year post-graduate diploma that builds advanced cybersecurity expertise for graduates and professionals already working in information technology. The curriculum covers building a security-centric organizational culture, secure architecture and design, governance, risk management and compliance principles, and advanced techniques for mitigating cybersecurity threats. A work-integrated learning component gives students real-world experience applying information security frameworks and methodologies in a regulatory compliance context. The program runs on a Fall start at the Exchange District campus in Winnipeg. It is designed for holders of an IT-related certificate, diploma, or degree, or for IT professionals with at least one to two years of relevant work experience, who want to specialize in information security and move into roles such as security analyst, compliance specialist, or risk and governance officer.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must meet one of two pathways: proof of graduation from, or enrolment in, a certificate, diploma, or degree related to information technology from a recognized post-secondary institution (including specified RRC Polytech programs, the MITT Network and Systems Administrator program, or a computer science or engineering degree), with transcripts issued within six months of application and submitted in a sealed envelope from the institution; or a personal resume demonstrating at least one year of relevant information technology or information security work experience, with two to three years recommended given the graduate level of the program. Applicants who completed at least three years of full-time secondary education in Canada, the United States, or an ELR-exempt country with English as the language of instruction meet the English language requirement automatically; others must complete an approved English language assessment. Mature applicants aged 19 or older who have been out of high school for at least one year may apply with a minimum of one year of paid employment in an information-technology-related role, while also meeting the regular English language requirement.
