BA/BS in Philosophy

Philosophy is a Bachelor of Arts degree program at Redeemer University, offered as a major and a minor. The program covers core areas of philosophy including metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, and aesthetics. First-year courses survey fundamental metaphysical, epistemological, and ethical issues in a seminar-style format, with attention to the role of worldview in relation to logic and argumentation. Students are trained to compose well-reasoned written arguments with increasing skill as they progress through the program. Core courses include Epistemology, Aesthetics, and Metaphysics, and Ethics serves as the department's required capstone course for majors in their third or fourth year. Elective and upper-year courses address topics such as Asian philosophy, biomedical ethics, and the philosophical examination of popular culture, and students can take part in student-run groups such as a debate club and an apologetics club.
