Overview
Redeemer University is a private, not-for-profit Christian university in Ancaster, Ontario, part of the Hamilton area.
It gained authority from the Province of Ontario to grant Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in 1998. On January 20, 2020, Ontario's Minister of Colleges and Universities approved a further name change to Redeemer University, closing out a naming-review process meant to end confusion about an institution that had already been granting university-level degrees for two decades while still using the word "College." Redeemer confers its own degrees directly, it is not federated with or a satellite campus of another university, and it has held ordinary membership in Universities Canada since 1987.
Rooted in the Reformed Christian tradition, Redeemer offers roughly 35 undergraduate majors and streams leading to BA, BSc, BBA, BHSc, BKin and BCoMS degrees across the liberal arts and sciences and, through its School of Business, accounting, finance, management and marketing. Its School of Education runs a consecutive, two-year Bachelor of Education accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers, alongside the Master of Education, Redeemer's first graduate program.
The BBA in Marketing carries separate accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Marketing Management of Ontario.
The Ancaster campus combines this academic offering with residence life, athletics and chapel programming.
