Program details
Overview
Offered on campus, or as a blend of online study and an on-campus residency, this master's program trains strategic communicators to work across cultures, examining how media, social marketing, advocacy, and public-culture channels operate differently across government, corporate, and non-profit settings. Coursework moves from intercultural theory and communication research methods through specialized electives such as migration and diaspora studies, health communication, and social marketing, building a critical understanding of how global politics and media shape intercultural exchange. Students finish through either a research paper demonstrating command of the field or a capstone Intercultural Learning Project tackling a real-world problem, and graduates go on to roles in government, NGOs, and intergovernmental organizations.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Standard admission requires a four-year (or comparable) undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with evidence of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for master's-level study; no minimum GPA is stated. Flexible admission is assessed on a sliding scale: applicants with three or more years of post-secondary education need at least three years of relevant work experience, preferably in a leadership capacity, rising to at least five years for applicants with two to three years of post-secondary education, and at least ten years of high-level professional communication experience in a leadership capacity for applicants with less than two years of post-secondary education; flexible applicants may also be asked for a digital portfolio of previous work. The programme page defers to Royal Roads' institution-wide English language proficiency requirements for applicants whose first language is not English: for graduate programs, IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with a minimum 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in listening and reading, or TOEFL iBT 88 overall with a minimum 24 in writing and 20 in listening, reading and speaking. Applicants also submit transcripts, a 900-1,200-word personal statement, and, for flexible admission, two reference letters and a résumé.

Start Date:September
Application Deadline:Royal Roads University sets no single university-wide deadline: domestic and international applicants apply directly to the university through the same process, and every programme page checked shows one identical deadline for both. RRU consistently closes a programme's application exactly three calendar months before that programme's own intake start date — a September 2027 intake typically closes 7 June 2027 — though a few programmes (the Master of Global Management, for example) use a six-month lead instead. Each programme lists its own upcoming intakes, running from 2026 into 2028 depending on the programme, and RRU says it may still accept a late application if space and processing time remain, but it publishes no separate international deadline and no institution-wide equal-consideration or rolling policy. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
