Overview
The Graduate Certificate in Financing Social Impact is a graduate-level program delivered entirely online that prepares practitioners from the private, public and non-profit sectors to identify and secure new sources of capital for projects and organizations advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The program addresses barriers to scaling social finance and sustainable investing and covers approaches to attracting capital, building organizational competencies for managing social-impact projects at scale, and connecting with practitioners in the social finance field. The credential consists of three courses: FSIM500 and FSIM525, each delivered online over nine weeks, and FSIM690, delivered online over five weeks and including a four-day virtual synchronous session followed by a one-day student conference. Coursework consists of assigned readings, synchronous and asynchronous lectures, discussions, and individual and team assignments, requiring approximately 10 to 15 hours of effort per week per course. FSIM500 and FSIM525 can also be taken individually outside the full certificate.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is assessed holistically, taking into account applicants' work and life experience, volunteer and community involvement, practical experience, training and formal education. Standard admission requires completion of a four-year (or comparable) undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, along with normally at least two years of relevant full-time work experience in areas such as leadership, management, communication, training, marketing or consulting. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications may be considered for flexible admission, which normally requires at least five full-time years of relevant work experience and some post-secondary education. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Royal Roads University's English language proficiency requirements.
