PGCert in Occupational Health Nursing

Occupational Health Nursing is a post-graduate certificate at Saskatchewan Polytechnic for registered nurses working in workplace wellness. The program is delivered online, allowing students to study at a time, pace, and location that suits them, with intakes in September, January, and April. Individual courses run 12 weeks each and combine theoretical study grounded in evidence-informed practice with application in a simulated lab setting. Coursework covers assessing workers and disabilities, safety systems, hazard assessment, creating safe work environments, project management, and nursing leadership in the workplace. The program culminates in an 80-hour field work placement in an industry setting, mentored by an employed registered nurse. Graduates work as occupational health nurses independently and as part of a team in outpatient care centres, educational institutions, factories, large corporations, public health clinics, and hospital settings. Admission requires graduation from a bachelor of nursing program or other relevant bachelor's degree, current licensure and registration with the registered nurses' licensing body in the province where clinical practice will occur, and Saskatchewan Polytechnic's English Language Requirement.
