Overview
This two-year, 71-week diploma builds on Primary Care Paramedic certification to prepare graduates for advanced clinical practice. Students develop in-depth knowledge and skills to administer a broader range of medications and perform advanced life-saving interventions, with particular emphasis on recognizing and managing medical and trauma emergencies across neonatal, pediatric, and geriatric populations. The program is delivered through a mix of in-person, virtual, and asynchronous learning, with roughly 50 mandatory evaluation dates and the flexibility to attend on up to 165 days overall. Students complete certifications including ACLS, ITLS, DAC, NRP, PALS, and TWM. The program is offered at the Regina and Saskatoon campuses, with a single intake each September. Graduates are prepared to register and practise as Advanced Care Paramedics providing higher-acuity out-of-hospital emergency care.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires current Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) certification from an accredited program, or equivalent, with registration as a PCP under the 2011 National Occupational Competency Profile for Paramedics. Applicants must hold a current International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Provider certificate and Basic Life Support Provider certification or equivalent, and must meet Saskatchewan Polytechnic's English Language Requirement. A Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search are required on admission, along with current immunization records, evidence of N95 respirator mask fit testing, and 2015 WHMIS GHS certification. A TLR or TLR EMS certification is required before entering clinical and practicum placements. The program has one intake each September.
