Overview
This certificate program trains agricultural equipment technicians to diagnose, repair, modify, overhaul, service and maintain agricultural machinery such as tractors and combines. Coursework covers engines, fuel systems, hydraulics and power trains, air conditioning, heating and electrical systems, welding, onboard computer and GPS systems, precision farming techniques, and seeding, tillage, sprayer and applicator equipment, combined with hands-on shop training and shop safety procedures. The program includes a two-week work experience placement at an agricultural equipment dealership and is delivered on campus in Saskatoon. It runs 35 weeks full-time, with a single intake each year beginning in August. Graduates typically find work as agricultural equipment technicians or farm equipment mechanics at dealerships, large farming operations, and custom combine companies, and the program notes the skills also transfer to the mining-manufacturing and construction industries; graduates may also be eligible for apprenticeship training credit through the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires Grade 11 with Foundations of Mathematics 20, Pre-Calculus 20, or Workplace and Apprenticeship Mathematics 20. Applicants without the standard academic credential can qualify through the ACCUPLACER placement test, with minimum scores of 250 in Arithmetic, 243 in Reading, and 236 in Writing. The programme applies Saskatchewan Polytechnic's institution-wide English Language Requirement.
