Overview

The Construction Techniques program is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue employment in the construction sector after only 8 months. Learn how to build and perform basic carpentry work, work safely on construction sites, perform concrete and form work, conduct surveys and estimates, and even how to create lay-outs and read blueprints. As an option, you may succeed in securing an apprenticeship after graduating from the program and be able to reinforce and expand on the skills you have learned through hands-on experiences alongside a qualified tradesperson.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with Grade 12 English (College Preparation, ENG4C) and Grade 11 Foundations for College Mathematics (College Preparation, MBF3C), or mature student status. International applicants and those whose prior study was not in English must meet the college's general Diploma and College Certificate standard: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 79-80 with no test score below 20, PTE Academic 60 with no communicative skill below 52, or Duolingo English Test 110 with no band below 105. No portfolio, interview or other condition is stated. The one-year certificate begins in September 2027.

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for programmes starting in September 2027, the application system opens on 26 September 2026 and the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, after which qualified applications are assessed first-come, first-served until seats are full; Sault College publishes no equal-consideration date of its own, and neither OCAS nor the college states a separate date for the January 2027 intake. International applicants apply directly to Sault College rather than through ontariocolleges.ca; the college states only that applications are reviewed within five business days of submission and publishes no fixed opening or closing date for international admission. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
