Overview
Biidaaban can be described in Anishinaabemowin as that time when dawn arrives in the East, a time of new beginnings. Biidaaban is an oral and visual way of communicating what is happening. The sun rises in the East, where we welcome life, new beginnings, and transformation. If you are interested in developing and expanding your transferable skills to build on your academic or career journey, this program will be a great fit for you. This one-year Ontario College Certificate is intended for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous learners. The Indigenous perspective, knowledge, and worldview covered in this program will nurture academic growth and workplace skills, respectful of the relationship and responsibilities of Anishinaabe teachings. You will learn the importance of balance, gain confidence, and explore courses of interest. This program will enhance your math, writing, and learning skills. Upon graduation, you will be able to apply the Indigenous values, knowledge, and worldviews, taking with you the teachings of harmony, balance, wholistic wellness, and living a good life. Several courses may be transferred to other Sault College programs if you choose to move into a diploma program right here, including programs in Business, Community Services, Culinary, Health, Engineering Technology, School of Natural Environment, and Skilled Trades. *Please be advised that entrance into other Sault College programs may be subject to additional admission requirements. Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or mature student status; the programme page states no further course or grade prerequisites. Applicants educated outside Canada or whose prior study was not in English must meet Sault College's general Diploma and College Certificate language standard: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 79-80 with no test score below 20, PTE Academic 60 with no communicative skill below 52, or Duolingo English Test 110 with no band below 105, current within two years of the programme start. No portfolio, interview or other admission condition is stated. The one-year, two-semester Ontario College Certificate begins in September 2027.
