The Biochemistry Associate of Science Degree is a two-year, 60-credit university-transfer credential at Selkirk College's Castlegar campus, delivered within the University Arts and Sciences program and covering the chemical processes that let living organisms function. Classes run on campus across four terms with intakes in Fall, Winter and Spring. Admission requires Biology 12, Chemistry 12 and Physics 11 at a minimum grade of 67%, Math 12 or Pre-Calculus 12 at a minimum of 67%, and English Studies 12 at a minimum of 60%. Graduation requires completion of 60 credits of university-level study with an overall GPA of 2.0. Admission Requirements: Admission requires Policy 8600 Pre-Admissions Basic Skills Assessment (College Readiness Tool) plus Selkirk College's general Policy 8611 admission requirements, applied to entry into the University Arts and Sciences Program. Academic prerequisites are a minimum grade of 67% in Math 12 or Pre-Calculus 12, a minimum of 60% in English 12 or English 12 First Peoples (or equivalent), and Biology 12, Chemistry 12 and Physics 11 each at a minimum of 67%. Students whose first language is not English must meet Selkirk's English-language-proficiency requirement and, if not otherwise met, must write the Language Proficiency Index (LPI) test and achieve a minimum of Level 4. Mature students may be admitted without meeting the full academic requirements by combining Academic Upgrading with university-level courses in their first year, which may extend total program length.
