Overview
The Nursing Unit Clerk Certificate prepares you with the knowledge, skills and experience to work in a health care setting as a Nursing Unit Assistant (NUA), Nursing Unit Clerk (NUC), or Health Unit Coordinator/Hospital Unit Clerk (HUC). You will learn to apply basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, diagnostics and pharmacology in an acute-care setting, as well as apply critical thinking skills and transfer knowledge effectively.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Beyond Selkirk College's general admission requirements, this certificate requires English Studies 12, or equivalent, at a minimum of 60%, along with keyboarding speed of 40 words per minute and working knowledge of internet, email, word processing and file management. No IELTS, TOEFL or other formal English-proficiency test score is published. Every applicant must supply a Criminal Record Check clearance letter issued under BC's Criminal Records Review Program, including clearance to work with vulnerable adults, and complete Selkirk's immunization form as required by practice partners and ordered by the Provincial Health Officer. A complete file also needs the Selkirk application form and official high school transcripts, or an interim statement if still enrolled, plus official post-secondary transcripts where applicable. Seats are offered first-qualified, first-served; conditional acceptance is possible but every requirement must be met before classes start, and a waitlist is maintained for twelve months. Intakes run in Fall and Winter.

Both domestic and international applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, or international applicants may instead apply directly to Selkirk with a $100 application package; admission stays rolling until seats fill. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is competitive-entry with its own published timeline for the 2027/28 intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
