BA/BS in Cultural Resource Management

The Cultural Resource Management Certificate is offered by the Department of Archaeology in the Faculty of Environment and prepares archaeology students for part-time or full-time employment in the cultural resource management sector, the largest employer of archaeologists in British Columbia. The curriculum draws on archaeology, First Nations Studies, and Geography courses to build the practical knowledge and skills used in identifying, evaluating, and conserving cultural resources such as heritage sites, objects, landscapes, and traditions, including work that informs law, business, planning, and community collaboration. Students complete a minimum of 32 units, made up of 25 units of required core courses, including the Archaeology Field School, and 7 units chosen from an approved additional-courses list, with at least 15 units completed at Simon Fraser University. Units earned may also count toward an archaeology major or minor and toward a bachelor's degree, though certificate units cannot be applied to another Simon Fraser University certificate or diploma.
