Overview

Simon Fraser University's French and Education certificate is a joint offering of the Department of French and the Faculty of Education for practising and future French teachers. The program combines courses in the pedagogy of French as a second language with courses that build French language competence or knowledge of French literature and linguistics. The certificate requires a minimum of 32 units: 23 units of mandatory core courses in French and education, plus at least 9 elective units, drawn from two French electives and one education elective. Units earned in the certificate may later be applied toward a major or minor program, though they cannot be applied to another Simon Fraser University certificate or diploma. Students may transfer up to 9 units in French and 6 units in education toward the certificate. The program prepares graduates to teach French, particularly within the British Columbia school system.
