Overview

Simon Fraser University's French Language Proficiency certificate is designed for students who may or may not be enrolled in a degree program and who want to improve their oral and written French, whether for cultural interest or professional development; it is not intended for native French speakers. The certificate requires a total of 18 units, including at least six units of 200-level FREN courses and a minimum of three units at the 300-level. A minimum 2.5 grade point average is required across all Simon Fraser University courses applied to the certificate. Students new to French coursework at Simon Fraser consult the Department of French for placement testing to determine their initial course level. Units completed for the certificate may also be counted toward a major, extended minor, or bachelor's degree, giving students flexibility to build the credential alongside other academic goals.

Admission Requirements: There are no formal entrance grade requirements; students consult the Department of French for the French language placement test and initial FREN course selection.
