Overview

Simon Fraser University's French Education minor lets students explore contemporary second-language teaching and learning theory alongside experientially based approaches to French curriculum development and instructional design, so they can develop culturally informed teaching practices for French-speaking classrooms. The minor requires a minimum of 16 upper-division EDUC units plus lower-division prerequisites of three EDUC units and six FREN units at the 200-division, or demonstrated equivalent French knowledge. It is intended to be paired with an existing degree program, giving students a pedagogical grounding in French-language instruction rather than standing as a standalone credential. The minor draws on the Faculty of Education's teaching methodology courses combined with the Department of French's language curriculum, preparing students for further teacher training or French-language instructional roles.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Declaration of the minor requires completion of three lower-division EDUC units and six FREN units at the 200-division (or demonstrated equivalent French language knowledge), in addition to a minimum of 16 upper-division EDUC units to complete the minor.
