Overview

The Planning concentration is a stream within the Resource and Environmental Management major at Simon Fraser University, leading to a Bachelor of Environment. The program is accredited by the Professional Standards Board for the planning profession in Canada and leads toward the professional designation of Registered Professional Planner through the Planning Institute of British Columbia. Coursework covers environmental, community, and Indigenous planning, alongside the broader natural-resource and environmental-management curriculum shared with other streams in the major. Students complete 120 units in total, including at least 45 upper-division units, and must complete either the Faculty of Environment Co-op program or two terms of Planning Internship as part of the degree. Classes are delivered in person at the Burnaby campus. The program prepares graduates for planning careers in municipal, regional, and Indigenous governments as well as private planning practice, combining professional accreditation with a strong grounding in environmental and resource-management theory and practice.
