BA/BS in Sociology and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies

Sociology and Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies is a Bachelor of Arts joint major at Simon Fraser University, combining the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The program is designed for students with complementary interests in gender, sexuality, and women's issues explored through combined sociological and gender-studies perspectives, and students are encouraged to plan their program in consultation with advisors in both departments. Students complete a total of 120 units, including a minimum of 18 lower-division sociology units covering SA 101 (Introduction to Anthropology) and SA 150 (Introduction to Sociology), together with further required and upper-division coursework in both disciplines. Students may declare the Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies portion of the plan after successfully completing one GSWS course and applying to the Undergraduate Advisor in the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 in sociology courses, including upper-division sociology courses, is required for graduation.
