Mathematics Education: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Admission Requirements: This PhD normally requires a thesis-based MA from SFU, or its equivalent from a recognized institution, with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on the 4.33 scale, together with prior knowledge of mathematics and of issues in the teaching and learning of mathematics; applicants who do not meet these requirements may still be considered in exceptional circumstances given superior scholarly or professional achievement. Beyond satisfying SFU's general graduate admission requirements under Graduate General Regulations 1.3, the program page does not publish its own English-language test score, so SFU's institution-wide thresholds apply: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (6.0 per band) or TOEFL iBT 90 overall (20 per section). The program itself consists of coursework, a comprehensive examination and a thesis totalling a minimum of 43 units.
