Curriculum & Instruction - Educational Theory and Practice: Master of Education (MEd) is a master's degree in Education & Teaching programme offered by Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Canada. The programme runs for 6 semesters, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 2,193 per semester (CAD 2,193 per semester for local students).
The MEd stream of this Curriculum and Instruction program builds curriculum design and pedagogical practice through sustained engagement with educational theory, research and philosophy. Students develop their capacity to engage and lead in curriculum design attentive to socio-historical contexts across a wide range of formal and informal settings, from K-12 schools, early childhood education and post-secondary to museums, art galleries, health care centres and outdoor environments, with an emphasis on curriculum reform for decolonial and equity-based transformation. MEd students complete the four mandatory core courses shared with the MA plus additional coursework, typically six courses in total, and conclude with a comprehensive examination rather than a thesis, with the option to ladder to the MA with faculty approval. Classes are held in person at SFU's Burnaby campus in the late afternoon and early evening. It suits educators and administrators moving into curriculum leadership, community organisers and planners designing educational experiences, and educators moving into public and informal education.
