Overview
SFU's MSc in Earth Sciences is an independent, research-based degree investigating the geological, geochemical and geophysical processes responsible for the formation and evolution of the planet. It combines coursework and research for a minimum of 30 units: a required introduction to graduate studies course, at least nine units of graduate Earth Sciences courses or approved related graduate courses from other departments, an MSc thesis proposal presented orally to an open audience and the supervisory committee usually before the end of the second term of enrolment, and the thesis itself. Course selection reflects each student's research interests and supervisor guidance, and student projects typically involve field, laboratory and quantitatively intensive research. Applicants normally hold a BSc in Earth sciences or a related discipline with good second class standing. The degree prepares students for a broad range of geoscience careers.

Admission Requirements: Simon Fraser University's Earth Sciences MSc normally requires a BSc or equivalent, with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (a good second-class standing).
