Earth Sciences Certificate

Admission Requirements: For BC secondary-school applicants entering Fall 2026 or later, Earth Sciences requires two of Chemistry 11, Life Sciences 11 or Physics 11 at the Grade 11 level, and at Grade 12 a minimum of five approved courses comprising one of English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12, Pre-Calculus 12 (required for all applicants), and at least two of Anatomy and Physiology 12, Calculus 12, Chemistry 12 or Physics 12. A minimum grade of 70% in Language Arts 11, English 12, or equivalent, is required, and admission is based on an evaluation of all approved Grade 11 and 12 courses; approved AP or IB courses may substitute. The prospective-student page does not distinguish separate entry criteria for the certificate versus the BSc major, and states no minimum admission average beyond the 70% English threshold. English-language proficiency follows SFU's general scale: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 4.5 overall with no section below 4.0 (tests from 21 January 2026).
