A 28-credit MEd built for practicing secondary math teachers, sharing a six-course core with the parallel MSc option and adding two elective credits plus a comprehensive examination to finish. Classes meet once a week in the early evening at the Burnaby campus, admitting a new cohort only every two years, and the curriculum assumes teachers may be years removed from their own undergraduate mathematics rather than requiring detailed recall.

Admission Requirements: The program follows SFU's general master's admission standard rather than stating its own GPA or language figures: a bachelor's degree from SFU or a recognized institution, a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4.33 scale (or 3.33 on the last 60 units), and references from qualified referees attesting to the applicant's ability to undertake advanced study. Non-native English speakers must meet SFU's general proficiency standard: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no section below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 90 overall with no section below 20, Duolingo English Test 125 overall with no section below 105, PTE Academic 65 overall with no section below 60, or CAEL 70 overall with no section below 60. On top of this, the program expects a mathematics background sufficient for secondary-school teaching certification, normally including completion of an undergraduate mathematics-teaching-methods course such as SFU's EDUC 415-4, and is designed for practising or certified teachers. The program takes a new cohort only every two years; the most recent cycle opened applications 1 October 2025 and closed 9 January 2026 for a Fall 2026 start.
