Program details

Overview

SFU's MEd in Teaching English as an Additional Language is a coursework-based credential built around the same three core seminars as the program's MA option, plus three further electives chosen from eight Faculty of Education graduate courses and a satisfactory/unsatisfactory comprehensive examination in place of a thesis. Full-time students can typically finish in four to five terms, while part-time students taking one course per term usually need six to seven terms. As with the MA, classes are scheduled in the late afternoon or evening at the Burnaby campus for working educators, and most applicants have at least two years of full-time teaching or equivalent experience with English-language learners.
