Overview
The Ontario Certificate program provides students with the knowledge and skills in scientific principles of Education and Fire Prevention in the Community, Fire Behaviour, Fire Ground Operations, Firefighter Emergency Patient Care, Environmental Protection and Rescue Operations as well as Introduction to the Fire Service. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to undertake provincial testing to meet the requirements of the Office of the Fire Marshal for certification as a firefighter under the NFPA 1001 and NFPA 1072 Standards.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry requires an OSSD with the majority of credits at College (C), University (U), University/College (M) or Open (O) level, plus Grade 12 English (ENG4U, ENG4C, EAE4C or EAE4U) and Grade 12 Math (MCT4C, MAP4C, MHF4U or MCV4U). Mature applicants without an OSSD may write the College's admission tests. The page sets no programme-specific language score, so the institution-wide certificate-level English requirement applies: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, TOEFL iBT 60, PTE Academic 52, CAEL 60, CELPIP General 7.0 in each module, or Duolingo 110, within two years; the programme itself further requires the ability to communicate in English, both written and verbal. Before the Pre-Graduate Experience component, students must pass a bona fide job-related physical fitness test, have no unpardoned criminal conviction, and attend a mandatory orientation session. Domestic applicants apply via Ontario Colleges; international applicants via International OCAS.
