Overview
This diploma trains students to apply electrical theory to design, test, troubleshoot and modify electrical machinery and control equipment and circuitry used in industrial and commercial plants and laboratories. Coursework develops problem-solving skills related to generating, distributing, transmitting and using electrical energy, combining classroom theory with hands-on laboratory work on current industrial equipment. The programme is delivered at the Chatham Trades & Technology facility, a purpose-built teaching space for electrical and industrial-technology programmes. The programme runs two years (four semesters) with a September start, program code K788. Graduates are eligible for associate membership with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) and may pursue Certified Technician (C.Tech.) status. The credential prepares graduates for roles supporting electrical design, testing, and maintenance in industrial and commercial settings.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with the majority of courses at the College (C), University (U), University/College (M) or Open (O) level, plus Grade 12 English (C, U or M) and Grade 12 Math (C, U or M), with MCT4C recommended. Mature applicants without an OSSD are directed to St. Clair College's general admission-procedures page. The programme admits in September at the Chatham Campus. No English-proficiency scores are published on the programme's own page; St. Clair's institution-wide standard for diploma and certificate programmes applies to international applicants: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, TOEFL iBT 60, PTE Academic 52, CAEL 60, CELPIP General 7.0 in each module, or Duolingo English Test 110.
