Overview
History at St. Jerome's University, federated with the University of Waterloo, studies the human past with particular focus on modern Canadian history and medieval history. The curriculum covers people, nations, landscapes, ideas, events, politics, and religion, alongside social constructs such as race, gender, class, age, and ethnicity across different periods and regions. Students build research, writing, and source-analysis skills by working directly with primary and secondary historical material. This General History stream leads to a three or four-year Bachelor of Arts and allows students to combine history with other areas of study. Course offerings span ancient, medieval, and modern periods, with particular strength in Canadian history. Graduates commonly proceed to careers in education, law, public service, archives, publishing, and journalism, or continue to graduate study in history or a related humanities discipline.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Ontario applicants need an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent) with a minimum of six Grade 12 U or M courses from a school accredited by the Ontario Ministry of Education, including Grade 12 U English with a minimum grade of 70%. Applicants whose most recent four years of full-time education were not completed in an English-language school system must also submit an English language proficiency test score. Admission to St. Jerome's University follows the same admissions process, application process, and document deadlines as the University of Waterloo.
