Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Earth and Environmental Sciences provides a broad understanding of the core natural proceses that shape the Earth and its environment, and an appreciation of how humans are influencing the planet. You gain skills in observation, data collection, laboratory techniques, spatial data analysis, the integration of multiple information sources, and the communication of findings. You will participate in field courses and co-op opportunities to apply knowledge to solutions for real-world resource management, environmental, and geological problems.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: UBC's own program page for Earth and Environmental Sciences (Okanagan) lists degree-specific prerequisites and defers general conditions to UBC's institution-wide admission standard. Domestic (Canadian secondary school) applicants need secondary-school graduation with at least six Grade 12-level academic courses, including English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12, plus Pre-Calculus 12 for this Science degree; each file is assessed on overall Grade 11/12 academic coursework plus a core assessment on courses relevant to Earth and Environmental Sciences, and UBC publishes no institution-wide entry average. The program page itself additionally requires, for the IB pathway, a completed IB Diploma with three Higher Level courses, IB Math Analysis and Approaches (SL or HL) or IB Math Applications and Interpretations HL (stating that IB Math Applications and Interpretations SL or IB Math Studies are not acceptable), one of IB Biology, IB Chemistry or IB Physics, and Grade 11 (or equivalent) Chemistry, with Grade 11 (or equivalent) Physics strongly recommended. The English-language requirement is IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no part below 6, or an equivalent accepted test.
