Overview
German Studies is a Bachelor of Arts major in the Faculty of Arts examining German cultural life, including literature, thought, art, music, and scientific inquiry, from the eighteenth century onward. German-language study is a core component, with many courses taught in German alongside study of cultural works significant to German and European culture. Course examples include German Language, Intensive Beginners; Topics: German Language and Culture; Fin-de-Siecle Vienna; and Post-Wall Culture. The major can be paired with minors such as Linguistics, Religious Studies, Geography, or Anthropology, and is related to majors including History, Linguistics, English: Cultural Studies, Liberal Arts, and Anthropology. Graduates apply language and cultural knowledge to careers such as translation, language teaching, research, and diplomacy, or pursue further study of German language and culture at the graduate level.
