The Major and Minor Concentrations in Russian cover Russian language, literature, and culture from the nineteenth century to the present. The major combines instruction in the Russian language with reading of texts in their original language, while the minor provides a working knowledge of Russian and an introduction to Russian life and culture through translated texts. Sample courses include Elementary Russian Language 1, Reading Russian Poetry, Advanced Russian Language and Syntax, and Readings in Russian. The concentration is offered within the Faculty of Arts and is commonly combined with related areas such as History, Sociology, Political Science, and Psychology. The program can lead to graduate study in Russian language and culture or careers such as translation, language teaching, diplomacy, and research.
