Overview
The Bachelor of St'at'imc Language Fluency is a two-year degree completed at UBC Okanagan following the St'at'imc Language diploma at Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT); together the diploma and degree form a four-year pathway built through collaboration between St'at'imc communities, NVIT, the En'owkin Centre, and UBC Okanagan to sustain and revitalize the St'at'imc language. The program develops advanced language proficiency alongside instructional capacity and Indigenous ways of knowing, and it opens with a summer transition course in which incoming students connect with other Indigenous students, learn about campus programs and services, and stay on campus in UBC residence. The final year includes an internship with a community partner and a personal language project. Graduates pursue roles in Indigenous outreach, social services, education, government policy, language assessment, community interpretation, and natural resources.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires prior completion of the St'at'imc Language diploma at Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT), which forms the first two years of study; the UBC Okanagan bachelor's degree comprises the final two years. The program begins with a summer transition course, during which incoming students connect with other Indigenous students, learn about campus programs and services available to them, and stay on campus in UBC residence.
