The Italian Studies program examines Italian history, literature, and contemporary culture through language, literature, and film courses. Students develop Italian language proficiency alongside coursework in Italian literature, read in the original language and in translation, and Italian cinema. The curriculum covers the role of Italian civilization in shaping Western values, taste, and worldview, alongside contemporary Italian culture spanning fashion, design, gastronomy, and manufacturing. Course offerings include Italian for Beginners, Masterpieces of Italian Literature, Topics in Italian Culture, and Italian Cinema and Video. The program is administered within the Faculty of Arts and can be paired with minors such as European Literature and Culture, Linguistics, Religious Studies, Geography, or Anthropology.
