Overview

The UBC Certificate in Organizational Coaching, delivered by UBC Extended Learning, builds practitioner-level coaching skills for people who want to strengthen engagement, culture and performance inside organizations. The curriculum maps to the International Coaching Federation core competencies at Professional Certified Coach level, is accredited by the ICF at Level 2 and holds the EMCC Global Quality Award; it also carries a 60-hour team coaching component aligned with the ICF Advanced Certification in Team Coaching. The full program runs eight months part-time and comprises 160 hours of coach education: ten mandatory live online intensive days, modular self-paced study in Canvas, a practicum coaching real clients, a month-long organizational coaching capstone and a final competency panel evaluation, all in cohorts of no more than 48. Experienced coaches can instead take a four-month, 100-hour ICF Level 2 add-on. Study is fully online with real-time classes. Applicants typically bring a degree or equivalent experience, at least five years working with individuals and teams and some prior coach training or coaching experience, and are assessed through an informal interview and two professional references.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: UBC Extended Learning requires applicants to hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent professional experience, plus at least five years of relevant work experience working with individuals and teams across a range of organizational contexts; prior ICF-accredited coach training, or having been coached by an ICF-credentialed coach, is also expected. No IELTS or TOEFL score is listed, but applicants must show communication skills sufficient for active participation in what the program describes as a dynamic, experiential format. Admission also requires an informal 25-minute admissions interview, evidence of an adequate support network and the time and resources the program demands, a letter of intent of up to 500 words, a resume, and two professional reference letters. The optional ICF Level 2 Add-on further requires an active ICF ACC or PCC credential and verification of completed ICF Level 1 or Level 2 coach education, or its equivalent. The complete program's next cohort begins January 25, 2027, with an application deadline of October 7, 2026; a non-refundable CAD $700 deposit secures a place once accepted.
