Program details

Overview

The Business Management Certificate is a part-time online program of six courses covering business planning, operations management, financial accounting and strategy. Live online classes meet evenings and weekends, combined with self-paced work within set deadlines, and individual courses run 11-14 weeks. It is designed for professionals building management skills without a full degree; completion is possible in about a year, with up to five years allowed.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission follows SFU Continuing Studies' standard certificate requirements rather than a programme-specific academic prerequisite. Applicants need Grade 12 or its equivalent; mature students who do not meet this standard may instead qualify with at least five years of appropriate experience. The programme's stated English Language Recommendation is an IELTS Academic overall band score of 6.5, set on SFU Continuing Studies' policies page. There is no formal application deadline: applicants may register for individual courses first and apply to the certificate at any time, and a non-refundable $99 program application fee applies when the formal application is submitted.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, with one set of dates per applicant type rather than by citizenship. Fall 2027 entry: high-school-route applications open 1 October 2026 and close 31 January 2027, while transfer applications open 1 March 2027 and close 15 April 2027 (Education and Contemporary Arts transfer applicants may apply from 1 October 2026). Spring 2027 entry runs 1 July to 15 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry runs 1 December 2026 to 15 January 2027. Admission documents are generally due 28 February 2027 (Fall) and offers must be accepted by 1 May. International applicants use the same EducationPlannerBC dates and portal; SFU publishes no separate international deadline. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
