Overview
Aimed at experienced EDI practitioners and at graduates of UBC's intercultural studies, equity, diversity and inclusion, and related micro-certificate programs, this Associateship centers on the Leading Conversations for Change course -- 40 hours of coursework plus a 10-hour facilitated practicum -- delivered online over five to six months to give emerging EDI consultants and facilitators applied, real-world practice. Eligible applicants are graduates or alumni of the UBC Certificate in Intercultural Studies, the UBC Certificate in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, the UBC Micro-certificate in Anti-Racism, the UBC Micro-certificate in Equitable Systems Design, or the UBC Micro-certificate in Diversity and Inclusion, alongside practitioners with hands-on EDI experience; all applicants must also demonstrate self-awareness around identity and privilege. The program is delivered fully online with both synchronous and asynchronous components: the 40-hour course phase asks for roughly seven hours of study per week, after which participants complete the 10-hour facilitated practicum applying what they have learned to a real-world project of their own choosing, with practicum timing kept flexible around that project's schedule.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The Associateship in Equitable Systems Design, offered through UBC Extended Learning's Centre for Equitable Systems Design, requires applicants to be graduates of one of the following UBC credentials: the Certificate in Intercultural Studies, the Certificate in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, the Micro-certificate in Anti-Racism, the Micro-certificate in Equitable Systems Design or the Micro-certificate in Diversity and Inclusion. Beyond that prerequisite, applicants must be able to secure their own practicum opportunity in which to apply their intercultural and EDI skills, must show fluency in English including good written and verbal communication skills, and must have the academic and interpersonal skills to participate actively in the program, committing roughly seven hours a week and meeting the program's minimum technology requirements. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis; candidates submit an online application form with a letter of intent of up to 500 words and pay a non-refundable $175 application fee.

Application Deadline:Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
