Program details
Overview
The Master of Data Science (MDS) is a 10-month, cohort-based professional graduate program delivered in person at UBC Vancouver, with a separate cohort at UBC Okanagan. The accelerated, intensive curriculum teaches students to apply artificial intelligence and machine learning methods to extract insight from structured and unstructured data, and to communicate findings clearly to support organizational decision-making. Real-world datasets are used throughout the coursework, and the program concludes with a capstone project completed with an industry, government, or research partner. Attendance at classes, labs, and program events is mandatory given the compressed timeline. The degree does not include a thesis; it is a coursework and project-based credential aimed at preparing graduates for data science, analytics, and machine learning roles across industry sectors. Admission occurs once per year, with studies beginning in September.
