Overview
UBC's Master of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Engineering is a course-based professional degree for engineers who want graduate-level depth without committing to a thesis. Students assemble their own programme from graduate and senior undergraduate courses within the department's guidelines, and after the first term may swap six credits of coursework for a supervised engineering project written up as a report, with faculty guidance in defining the topic. Recommended course groupings map onto seven interest areas: signal processing, software engineering, communications, computer systems, micro/nano electronic systems, energy production and energy utilization, spanning topics such as wireless networks, computer architecture, power system dynamics, energy storage, integrated-circuit design and big-data systems. The certificate carries no sub-specialisation. The MEng is delivered in person at the Vancouver campus and is not administered by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, with admissions handled through UBC Engineering; applicants planning a future PhD are directed to the MASc instead.

Admission Requirements: This Master of Engineering is administered by UBC's Faculty of Applied Science rather than the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. The Faculty of Applied Science's general graduate minimum applies: an overall average in the B+ range (76% at UBC) in third- and fourth-year courses for Canadian or American bachelor's degree holders, drawn from a background in electrical or computer engineering, engineering physics, physics, computer science, or a related subject. Applicants from countries not exempted (which include the US, UK, and Australia) must submit an English test (TOEFL, IELTS, or MELAB) within 24 months of applying; the exact minimum is set by the department and was not published on a page this run could reach, and conditional admission for language proficiency is not offered for this program. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027.
