Program details
Overview
Developmental Studies examines the biological, environmental, and social factors that shape individual and group development, drawing on psychology, sociology, and related disciplines. The program offers three streams: Individual Human Development, covering the life course from prenatal and infant development through adolescence and gerontology; Comparative Biological Development, covering animal physiology, genetics, and evolution; and Child Development and Child Care, a joint program with Red River College or the Université de Saint-Boniface. All three streams lead to a three-year Bachelor of Arts degree, and the Child Development and Child Care stream additionally leads to a two-year Diploma in Early Childhood Education. Graduates commonly work in child care, family services, and related human-service fields, or continue to graduate study in research, administration, or teaching. A related Advanced Diploma in Leadership in Early Childhood Care and Education is offered through the university's Professional, Applied and Continuing Education division.
