BA/BS in English

This program studies literature, the English language, and the practice of writing, with coursework spanning literary periods from Chaucer and Shakespeare through contemporary authors and covering genres such as creative writing, linguistics, Indigenous literatures, children's literature, and postcolonial studies. The Bachelor of Arts in English is offered as a three-year, four-year, or Honours degree; the four-year option can be taken as general studies or with a Creative Writing specialization, and a Minor in English is available to students majoring in another subject. A related Master of Arts in Cultural Studies: Texts and Cultures is offered at the graduate level for students who continue in the field. The program is built around developing analytic, reading, and writing skills that carry into a range of professions, and suits students aiming at teaching, journalism, publishing, public relations, law, business, medicine, or politics, as well as those who want strong critical reading and writing preparation before further study.
