Program details

Overview

The Master's in Development Practice: Indigenous Development at the University of Winnipeg is a graduate program housed in Global College, completable in twenty-four months full-time or forty-eight months part-time. Students complete two three-month field placements as part of the program, alongside a mix of required courses and electives, or a major research paper option. Instruction combines in-class teaching with experiential components focused on Indigenous development. The program page describes it as designed for practitioners working in sustainable development, with an emphasis on Indigenous perspectives and contexts. Graduates are said to move into roles such as program officer, community development consultant, program coordinator, policy advisor or analyst, and researcher, working for employers that include government agencies, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, the private sector, and Indigenous organizations. The program suits students who already have some grounding in development work or a related field and want graduate-level training that combines academic study with substantial field-placement experience, particularly those seeking to specialize in development practice grounded in Indigenous knowledge and priorities rather than a purely theoretical or generalist development-studies credential.
