Program details

Overview

The First Nation Taxation Administration Certificate provides the knowledge and skills needed to design and operate a taxation system similar to other governments using the powers outlined in the First Nation Fiscal Management Act. The program will be of interest to people in First Nation taxation and development roles; those doing business with First Nations; and local, provincial or federal government employees involved with First Nation taxation systems.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Delivered through the Tulo Centre of Indigenous Economics, Thompson Rivers University's page for this certificate sets the same entrance bar as its sister Tulo programs: Pre-Calculus 11 or Foundations of Mathematics 11 at a minimum of C+ (or equivalent), English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 at a minimum of 73% (or equivalent), and basic computer literacy with exposure to word-processing and spreadsheet software. No standardized English-language test score (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo or CAEL) is published on this page as an alternative route. The certificate runs six courses delivered in Kamloops, with no interview, portfolio, work-experience or GPA condition stated. Applications are handled directly by the Tulo Centre ([email protected], 250-828-9881), and intake is listed as ongoing rather than fixed intake dates.

Application Details

Start Date: Ongoing
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) apply directly to TRU: for the September (Fall) intake the deadline is 1 May, for January (Winter) it is 1 September, and for the May (Summer) intake it is 1 January; applications for most programs open 1 October, and a deadline falling on a weekend or statutory holiday moves to the next working day. International applicants follow the same intake structure with deadlines of 1 May (September), 1 October (January) and 1 February (May); TRU still reviews later applications where space remains, though high-volume programs can close early, so admission runs on a rolling basis around these published cut-offs for the 2027 entry cycle. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
